Liberty Books Presents Tracy Farren
7 November at 6:30 pm – 8:30 pmR150
Author Tracey Farren will be joining us at Liberty to discuss her latest novel, The Book of Malachi.
Malachi is a traumatised character and the fragmented style of the first person narration reflects this; he goes from working in a chicken processing plant to a people processing plant: an organ farming factory housed on an abandoned oil rig somewhere off the coast of Africa, where naked criminals are kept in cages while growing organs for others, such as a tongue for the mute and mutilated Malachi, his payment for seeing the subjects through 3 rounds of organ growth and harvesting.
This is deeply unsettling subject matter and Farren faces and fleshes it out fully. But as Malachi gains a voice, comes to accept his past and finds a purpose in his present, the novel shifts into the style and pace of a cinematic thriller that flies through action sequences to a truly spectacular conclusion. The novel’s themes, its questions, its cleverness and complexity, live on long after its conclusion and I can’t wait to talk to Tracey about all of it! 📚🍷🤓Thursday, 7 Nov, 18:30 for 19:00 at Liberty Books, R150pp for food & wine for the body & mind.
